Col Clarence James Smith 66 retired Pennsylvania National Guard officer and former managing editor of the Allentown Morning Call died after two years of illness. He held a distinguished service medal and Pershing citation from World War I, served in the Spanish American War and on the Mexican border, commanded the 213th Coast Artillery, and held leadership posts in chambers, clubs, and veterans groups. He left journalism for Pennsylvania Power and Light in 1934. He survived by his widow and two sons with funeral rites planned for Saturday.
