London reports a 12 year old evacuated boy and a 19 year old girl killed when a bomb hit their garden amid intensified daylight raids. Prisoner Flees Sheriff Nabs Him in Altoona Chase

William Ridenour, 26, formerly of Indiana, escaped Blair County Jail in Hollidaysburg after a taxi driver was shot in Altoona. Sheriff J Clair Irvin chased him two blocks then recaptured him near a Court Way hideout. Ridenour, serving four months of a six month larceny sentence, had just fled the courthouse when authorities nabbed him.

Greensburg Aug 28 A jury convicted Fred Lilja and Steve Gaspich of Monessen on conspiracy to violate election laws misrepresenting Communist party nominating petitions and making false affidavits Sentencing was deferred The prosecution charged that in soliciting signatures for the petitions they represented them as petitions to keep the United States out of war.

Among Aliens to Register Here in Indiana County

Aliens in Indiana County must register and be fingerprinted under the federal registry act. Tarquini, 58, of Tunnelton led as the first to report for registration, the 12th alien from the county to register. Yesterday several more names appeared, listing Harry Waselko, Joe Parisi, Willimy Welsh, John Mattson Ernest, and others. Penalties include fines or imprisonment for failure to register. About 3,000 aliens in the county are expected to register at Indiana Blairsville or Homer City post offices.

Posse Captures Three Youths in Centerville Burglary Hunt

A posse of police and 20 farmers armed with shotguns chased down and captured three boys at a Centerville sugar camp. Leonard Geer, 6, was shot in the right hand during the escape attempt and taken to a hospital. Youth Beaten and Robbed in Baltimore Kidnapping

Garland W. Biker, 18, Gettysburg trucker, says five men dragged him from his truck on Baltimore's East Side, beat him, and robbed him of 66 dollars before tossing him from a car. A taxicab driver then took him to a hospital with head lacerations.
