Martha Mitchell Attacks Fulbright Over Vietnam War
Martha Mitchell, wife of General John Mitchell, accused Senator Fulbright of prolonging the Vietnam War during a West Coast trip back to Washington. She claimed the war would be over if not for Fulbright and repeated her previous criticisms of his opposition to Nixon’s Supreme Court nominee. Her remarks came as the presidential party returned aboard Air Force One from San Clemente.
