Long Beach harbor awards 320000 soil tests contract
The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners awarded a 320000 contract to a local geotechnical firm to perform underwater soils and foundation testing for the proposed Sohio tanker terminal site in the outer harbor. The project, expected to take six months, will publish results before construction begins and two thirds of the cost may be paid by Sohio if the terminal cannot be built to receive Alaskan North Slope oil. The commission also approved a 1019950 contract with Westmont Industries for a traveling gantry shiploader at the Belk grain terminal and authorized 1310000 total expenditure for the project, with funds offset by a 5410000 payment to the grain terminal designer and for inspections. Burglars stole a television from Shangri Lodge at 8875 Long Beach Blvd during the same period.
