Sailor survives 28 days adrift by rainwater and rest

Mystery blast razes L B boat junkyard
A Tuesday afternoon explosion and ensuing 40 minute blaze gutted most of the West Long Beach boat junkyard at 1850 W Ninth Street and damaged the adjacent Long Beach Neon Advertising Co. Firefighters estimated $20,000 in damage with possible losses up to $100,000. No injuries were reported. Traffic was diverted around the scene as Deputy Chief Charles Jones said cause was under investigation and the Mobil Oil well on site contributed to the fire. One co owner named James Groves and a 45 year old pile driver Terry Crawford escaped harm. The fire was controlled by 3:30 p.m.
