Signal Hill delays electric code adoption to revise undergrounding
Signal Hill City Council delayed adopting a standardized electrical code until November to revise an amendment on underground utility services. Eric Davis of the Long Beach Electrical Contractors Association urged code adoption for county-wide uniformity, noting 27 different codebooks used locally. He opposed the revised fee schedule, saying new fees would rise about 52.4 percent while the consumer price index advanced 38 percent. A two-bedroom home would see construction fees rise from 16–18 dollars to 28. Randlé sought softer wording on undergrounding requirements, and Brown was asked to refine the ordinance. The council also authorized a 515,000 federal grant application under the Public Works Employment Act for the Eastside Interceptor project in Signal Hill, which currently uses Long Beach sewers to serve pastside industrial tracts.
