Dirty movies in appellate court dispute
California Supreme Court sent a case about 13,500 reels of dirty movies 17,000 photographs and 1,224 decks of playing cards to the Los Angeles 2nd District Court of Appeal. The films seized in police raids were held as evidence by Superior Court Judge L Thaxton Hanson who refused federal orders to return them. Film distributors asked immediate return of the films and records. The dispute began after a federal panel ruled the seizure illegal and ordered return except for three copies kept as evidence. The U.S. Supreme Court declined to stay the lower court ruling. The decision quoted Judge Hanson as calling the federal ruling unreasonable and impractical.
