Tokyo dispatch reports Chinese Reds launched a large scale assault on the Hungnam beachhead in northeast Korea. 12 enemy divisions massed in the hills above Hungnam as a snowstorm reduced allied support and visibility. Sky Giant Sets Off From Long Beach For Honolulu

A United Air Lines Stratocruiser bound for Honolulu had to depart Long Beach owing to LA Airport's short runways. With 55 passengers, the heavy plane loaded lightly on fuel to reach Long Beach where a longer strip exists. After refueling with 4000 gallons, it completed a training start toward Honolulu, about 10 hours and 53 minutes distant.

Quake Hits Ordnance Depot Sparks Damage and Reports No Injuries

Early today a series of earthquakes rattled the Sierra Ordnance Depot near Reno 50 miles away. Col Hf E Hopping said there were no injuries but damage could be high with at least 10000 dollars to underground conduits and cracks in walls at 1050 dams. The Army reported losses to the post theater gymnasium and civic buildings and possible damage to munition storage igloos. Mrs Eve Taylor, a local newspaperwoman, noted a sharp tremor as the scene continued into the afternoon.
