The Seattle based Margaret F. collided with a San Pedro purse seiner off Oceanside California in heavy fog. The Margaret F sank after the crash with a 12 man crew, rescued by the Venus which was returning to port. The Margaret F was manned by a San Pedro crew under John Ruzich.

FBI Nabs Desperado Wright In Salina Drugstore

FBI seized Glen Roy Wright, once a life term inmate and named among the ten most wanted criminals, without a struggle in a Salina Kansas drugstore. He escaped Oklahoma State Prison in 1948, and was armed with a .45 when arrested, charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Four F-80s Tangle With 24 Red Jets in Major Air Battle

AIR FORCE BASE Korea Dec 14 Four American F-80 jets engaged 24 Soviet built MiG-15s in the Sinuiju area shortly before noon today in the war’s largest aerial clash. The combat lasted about 20 minutes and involved swarming enemy formations crossing the Yalu from Antung Manchuria. Returning pilots claimed damage to one sweptback wing Soviet jet, and officials called it the longest air battle on record.

President Truman told congressional and party leaders that military and industrial mobilization must rise sharply amid grave threat from world conflict. A proclamation likely Friday night as he addresses the nation. Defense plans include universal military training up to 30 months for 18-year-olds and more National Guard and Reserve activations. The draft may not meet a 3,000,000-man pool for mid-1951. Army will boost draftee inductions by 70,000 in January and February.

Bus Fare and Route Changes On Jan 1 In Long Beach

A new schedule of adjusted zone fares for all lines of Long Beach City Lines and Long Beach Motor Bus Co will take effect on January 1. Changes in routes and extensions of service, aimed at improving mass transportation for Lakewood area growth, will also begin. The State Public Utilities Commission authorized the changes yesterday, with City Line and Bureau of Franchises having granted prior authorization.
