North Long Beach residents urge the City Council to install a water line in the Arbor Street parkway between Arbor Street and the Union Pacific embankment. They have beautified the 36 by 800 foot strip at their own expense for two years, hauling water from nearby homes. The letter, signed by Everett Blood and others, requests faucet access every 100 feet to end hose dragging and maintain the improved parkway.

Jail hinges on door warded by writ for county officials

Orange County Administrator Robert E. Thomas and Harry Pisegna face no jail time after Superior Court Judge Robert L. Corfman issued a temporary restraining order. Mast had cited them for contempt for installing an emergency exit door the judge opposed. The door serves the Veterans’ Exemption Office now relocating to the new Orange County Courthouse. The men were to remove the door within 24 hours, but the writ delays the contempt ruling until the Tuesday hearing on a permanent writ. A separate burglary case notes a $565 color TV stolen from Barbara Sullivan’s home at 550 East 20th Street after burglars broke a side window.
