Catalina crash near Avalon kills two men in seaplane collision
A Goose seaplane collided with a 19 foot runabout near the Avalon breakwater injuring no one else. two Orange County men, Robert Hill 38 of Corona Del Mar and Clarence Nurmi 45 of Newport Beach, died. The pilot Capt. Jackson Hughes 45 of Laguna Beach returned to Long Beach Airport with two passengers. FAA and NTSB investigated while Golden West officials noted unmarked seaplane area outside the breakwater. Bodies were taken to Avalon Hospital morgue.
