No tax boost seen in new state budget

Gov Reagan will present a 7 billion dollar budget next year with no tax increase, says Verne Orr, California finance director. He forecasts at least 400 million extra general fund revenue for 1972-73, pushing the current year budget to about 7.2 billion. Orr expects lawmakers in 1972 to avoid new tax bills while citing a bright economy with rising state revenues and aerospace job losses in 1972. He notes inflation likely to be kept in check and mentions a 50 million payroll withholding tax package enacted this year as a cushion for 1872-73. The administration will push property tax relief paired with school funding amid California's court ruling on school finance.
