Vietnamese sons’ custody fight moves to Connecticut
A California woman who gave up her two sons during the Vietnam War era will face a custody battle in Connecticut after authorities stayed kidnapping cases there. Judge Lawrence Storch postponed the California hearing until August 23 as Connecticut immunity orders were reviewed. The boys Khanh and Tuan, now 9 and 6, were taken to California in 1975 and later returned to Connecticut, where their adoptive father Richard Lucas seeks to keep them.

Peter Sheehan, Alameda County lawyer, seeks a court order to force action on hundreds of pending requests, including a case for a convicted felon seeking fulltime parole agent status. The governor’s aide says 21 pardons issued in 1975 and about 40 more under consideration, with decisions expected soon.
