SAN RAFAEL AP Three San Quentin inmates were convicted Thursday in the 1971 escape attempt in which black revolutionary George Jackson and five others died. Three defendants were acquitted. Soheny L. Spain was convicted of killing two guards and conspiring to escape with Jackson. Hugpinell and David Johnson were found guilty of assaulting guards during the melee. Willie Tate Louis Talamantez and Keta D were acquitted of all charges.
Santa Cruz AP reports two young women missing 39 days were found dead in the mountains above Santa Cruz. Victoria Bezore, 23, of Rio Del Mar and Mary Gorman, 25, of Boulder Creek were identified by dental charts and X-rays. Sheriff Noren said leads point to possible suspects and animals may have tampered with remains.
