Buenaites Return From California Trip
Mr and Mrs F P Grounds return to Buena Vista from a month long auto tour to California visiting Modesto where their son George Grounds works for Modesto Lumber company. They traveled 2066 miles through 21 counties visiting the state fair in Sacramento and Petaluma chicken interests. Mrs Grounds calls the trip pleasant and interesting noting California appeals to the rich more than the moderate, yet they enjoyed every minute and were glad to be home.

Woman's Club Begins Year with New Officers
Thirteen members attended a Wednesday meeting in city hall rooms as Mrs. Margaret Nissen chaired. New committee chairs were named for program calendar ways and means and civic work. Sneak Thieves Strike Chickens and Car

More than forty automobiles in the 1927 Oregon exposition caravan will arrive in Independence at 6 15 p m Friday October 13 with decorated cars offering a 60 prize and a 25 second prize. William P Merry leads the trip with Mayor George L Baker among speakers and musical features planned for the Williams drug corner or Inis theatre. The caravan travels from Dallas to Independence then to McMinnville for an overnight stay.

City Budget Sets Tax Cut for Independence Next Year
A tentative 1923 budget for Independence reduces city levy by about three mills. Mayor Walker, Acting Recorder Baker, Treasurer Irvine, and taxpayers’ representatives McLaughlin, Hubbard, Cockle, Irvine, MacCarthy, and Moore, report a sound financial base with reduced bonded debt. Polk County Voters to Decide Two Tax Proposals
Two financial questions certified by the county court seek a total expenditure of 73 482 dollars in Polk County at the coming election. One measure would raise 40 000 dollars for roads 2 000 for the county fair 2 000 for the county agent and 2 682 for the library to fund road work and gravel distribution. The second would provide 26 800 dollars for a general fund to build bridges on the Pacific highway west side at Rickreall near Basket Slough and Soap Creek with two bridges across Soap Creek.

T. F. Clifford Takes Charge at Sandy Creamery
T. F. Clifford, longtime head butter maker at the Independence creamery, resigns to manage the Farmers' Cooperative creamery at Sandy Oregon on the Sandy boulevard east of Portland.
