Jury verdict favors plaintiff in Davis farm suit

In a Civil Action heard in Judge Wil son’s court J. H. Collins sued A. Davis over a three year lease dated October 1, 1411 claiming Davis failed to maintain the farm, spray the orchard and cultivate all land. The jury found for the plaintiff and Davis must vacate the farm at once unless an appeal is filed. Parker will take possession if vacated.

Mission Services Series Opens With Broad Appeal

The first in a series of union mission mediagen was held at M B church Sunday evening with Rev. McFarland of Beytist church delivering an able address to a packed audience. Rev. P F N Sandi fur spoke at the Presbyterian church Monday and Dr. Dunsmore at the Christian pulpit Tuesday. Wednesday services were at M E B church and the meetings continue Thursday and Friday evenings.

Polk County School Officers Convention Set for December 14

The County Educational Board met at the office of County Superintendent H C Seymour in Dallas to plan the annual Polk county school officers convention. It will be held in the county courthouse on Saturday December 14 starting at 10 oclock.

Thanksgiving Ball at the Opera House Schedule

The Independence Orchestra will host a Thanksgiving ball in the opera house on Thanksgiving night. The orchestra will provide music to ensure a good evening of entertainment.

Edith Owen Davidnot Weds H Montgomery Ward in Quiet Sunday Ceremony

The quiet home wedding took place at the Owen residence on Sunday November 17 at high noon. Edith Owen Davidnot daughter of Mr and Mrs BH Owen married H Montgomery Ward of Portland. Dr Dunamore of Calvary Presbyterian officiated with intimate friends present. The couple departed for Portland at 2 20 PM to establish their home. Edith had worked in Portland and the groom was a bowerman with Marshall Wells in Portland. Friends wish them happiness and prosperity.

Geo Kurre, a mild clerk on the S P road from Portland, fell sick Thursday during his usual trip. He was rushed to Portland for an appendectomy. His father Peter Kurre and brother Will traveled to Portland Friday to be with him. they returned Saturday after Geo showed improvement.

Train schedule tweaks shift arrival times

A small adjustment to the 5S time card takes effect Wednesday. The No 1 morning train now arrives at 10 59 instead of 10 45, No 2 afternoon at 2 14 instead of 2 29, and freight No 66 at 3 01 instead of 1 10. No other changes affect the neat line trains.

Mrs Joy came home from Portland last week with her daughter Mrs Stevens who has been hospitalized there for cancer.

Railroads Back Pacific Northwest Land Show With Prizes and Parade

Railroads in Oregon and Washington fund prizes and transport exhibits to the Portland Land Product Show. Harriman lines offer clerks and families a holiday with free show tickets on the 20th. A parade from Wells Fargo with band and floats showcases industry and farming education for about 1200 clerks and the public.

Polk County Teachers Institute in Dallas Reports Strong Benefit

Teachers from Polk County gathered at Dallas High School on the 11th 14th and 15th for an annual institute. Instructors selected by Superintendent Seymour led departments while Prof A H W Chamberlain of San Francisco and George Gilbert Bancroft gave well received lectures on topics including The Yosemite National Park. The group praised the Dallas school board for use of facilities and passed resolutions thanking officials while noting State Superintendent L R Alderman could not attend.

Buena Vista hopes rise for a railroad link with Albany and Suver. A Southern Pacific survey traces Albany to Wellsdale and another Albany to Suver route with potential connections toward Independence and Salem, while Buena Vista eyes a I. M. road extension as a future possibility.

New Telephone Line Organised For American Bottom Farmers

A stock company formed by American Bottom farmers plans a local telephone system. Line work began Wednesday and will finish soon. The line extends eight miles south from Independence, serving about twenty four subscribers. The central office will be at the Home Telephone Company's office. It will benefit Independence and American Bottom residents.

Civic Improvement League Formed in M. E. Church

A Wednesday afternoon meeting at the M. E. church organized a civic improvement league with fair attendance from women and a few men. Rev. Sandifur was elected temporary leader as members clarified the society's purpose.

The Monmouth Normal hosts a school day Saturday with visitors from Yamhill and Washington counties. The Southern Pacific Railroad Company has arranged to run a special train to Monmouth for the event.

Defeated but Not Sore Mentioned by Orr in City Visit

Rickreall resident J. W. Orr said he was defeated but not sore after the recent election during a city visit on Saturday. Andy Wilson and Peter Kurre moved a barn in the southwest city area on Wednesday for W. W. Newton. the structure will be converted into a residence.

Local Club Elects Officers and Plans Next Meeting

A meeting of the organization elected Mrs. Peter Kurre as president and Mrs. J. G. McIntosh as vice president after a vote on completing the organization. Temporary chairman and Mrs. Swope acted as secretary. The group adjourned to meet next Wednesday with an organizer to assist in the work.
