Rev. P R Burnett grandfather of M rs Sherman Hays and Mra Florence Jinker, injured when struck by an automobile in Independence downtown. Ankle broken, severe bruises and lacerations. Taken to hospital, he was near death but improved with days. Burnett, over 80, crossed street in rain when rear wheel passed over his ankle. accident deemed unavoidable. Mrs Hays and Mrs Irvine went to Eugene to help. Irvine returned home with news of recovery.

Martha Alice Fleming murió at her son C J Chamberlin’s 828 D street home on November 12 after a long paralysis. Born September 12, 1861 in Missouri, she crossed the plains as an infant and later married twice, leaving ten children eight surviving. Funeral held at Odd Fellows cemetery with Dr H Charles Dunsamore officiating.

Rex Corbett Jordan three months old son of Mr and Mrs Lee Jordan died Friday after pneumonia. Funeral services were held at 1 pm from the Troxell home with Dr H Charles Dunemore officiating. Burial in Odd Fellows cemetery. The family had recently moved to Valsett and he had joined Cobbs Mitchell company.

The annual Independence corn show begins this morning in the McBeth building on C street. Exhibits include corn, corn products, potatoes, pumpkins, grain displays from Polk county fair participants, plus flowers from Independence Floral. County agent Paul Carpenter and aides manage展示 with high turnout expected. A Friday night concert by the high school orchestra and a Saturday 2:30 corn talk from Agricultural College are part of the program.

The father and son banquet held in the basement of the Methodist Episcopal church last Friday evening drew enthusiastic attendance.
