Hanna Former Hardware Merchant Dies of Apoplexy
Hanna a former hardware merchant and respected farmer living three miles south of Independence was found dead in a ranch woodlot of apoplectic stroke. He had gone to the woodlot for anchor pasts for wire fencing and did not return to lunch. He was about 42, born in Indiana county, Pa., came to Polk county in 1898, worked in hardware with his brother James Hanna, later ranching. Survived by widow, six children, four brothers and four sisters. Funeral plans set with burial in Odd Fellows cemetery.

Funeral for John Banner Held Here
John C. Banner, stepfather of Mrs. George Grover of Independence, died in Sacramento on November 16. His remains were brought here for a Presbyterian funeral and burial at Odd Fellows cemetery. Dr. H. Charles Dunsmore officiated with funeral director A. L. Keeney in charge. He would have turned 76. Survived by widow Elizabeth Banner and two stepchildren, Walter Corliss of Warren Vermont and Mrs. Grover. Former Salem resident and active Mason and Odd Fellow, Civil War veteran who enlisted at 17.

Polk County Tax Collection Surges With Low Delinquency
Polk county reports 5 percent of 1921 tax rolls delinquent. Total roll amount turned over to the sheriff was $578,781.07. By November 20, $544,689.57 had been collected, leaving $29,092 delinquent. Last year the December 1 delinquency was 4.7 percent, and this year is expected to be similar.

Rev Peter Burnett 80 Dies After Auto Crash in Eugene
Oregon pioneer minister Rev Peter R Burnett aged 80 years 7 months 1 ½ days died in Eugene hospital after an automobile collision near Eleventh avenue and Willamette street. He had journeyed from prayer meeting at First Christian church with lingering injuries. Survived by six children and brother Judge Albert G Burnett of California. Funeral to be held in Eugene with interment at McMinnville Veatch chapel remains.

South Boy Injured by Discharge Gun
Roy South, 15, was shot in the right leg Tuesday evening by a companion's premature gun discharge. The leg muscles were badly torn. he was treated at Independence hospital and sent home. Ten new houses will be built at Walsetz by Cobbs and Mitchell Co once arrangements are complete.

Growing Seed Potatoes Pay Off for Polk County Family
Harley Wilson and his three sons Alfred 13 George 11 and Woodrow 10 raise seed potatoes on 28 acres near Polk County with Sheridan post office. They have filed multiple prize wins at state and county fairs including first and third at the state fair 11 prizes of 13 entries Polk county fair wins and multiple best of class honors. Steps to Improve Crossing at Luckiamute
A committee of Dr. O. D. Butler C A Elliott and Dr. George C Knott was appointed by the Independence Retail Merchants' association to study temporary fixes for the Luckiamute bridge to Ed Steele place highway segment so it can carry traffic in winter. Proposals include planking or rock cover shipped over the Valley and Siletz lines. The current wet season makes the road nearly impassable, aggravating local inconvenience.

Polk County Budgets See No Cut in 1928 Tax Rate
Polk county tentative budget for 1928 keeps roughly the same total as last year. No funds for the county fair agent or library, but a $32,000 rise in the general road fund offsets losses.
