Voters turned out in North Independence and at the city hall precincts as tallies rolled in. Several candidates with Independence ties ran for state and county offices, with Hil and Robison winning majorities for representative and county clerk respectively amid a largely Democratic tilt in the county.

Buying "babies" in Illinois. shipments to New York

C illinois trader Fitehard bought two carloads of "babies" shipped to New York. One car carried 84, the other 81. He notes Oregon babies are larger and better than far eastern stock and has paid up to 40 cents per pound. Eastern buyers will receive the "babies" from Independence.

Local Residents Acquire Three Acres on Seventh Street

Lee Hewitt C KR Bike and J W Wiltse bought three acres from FR McLaughlin on Wednesday. They plan to plat the tract and build a cement sidewalk around the property, then offer the lots for sale. The parcel lies on the west side of Seventh Street and features rich soil, addressing a city need for more residential lots.

Blasting Kills Electric Power On Oregon Line

Farmers blasting stumps along the Oregon Electric railway near East Independence last Friday killed power on the line for about an hour. Pieces of debris blew into the 60 000 volt transmission line causing a short circuit and automatic switches to shut off power between Oregon City and Eugene crippling Salem car service. The superintendent urged people along the road to notify the company before blasting and a line man will be sent to monitor properties during work.

Mrs Ireland Dies in Albany After Lifetime in Oregon

Mrs Cornelius J Ireland native of Oregon dies at Albany home last Saturday. Funeral held in Monmouth with interment at K of P cemetery. She lived much of life in Oregon, worked in Corvallis, visiting Albany when she passed.
