Sentences Handed to Buffum and Partner in Larceny Case

Frank Buffum convicted at Salem last week of larceny was sentenced by Judge Kelley to serve from one to five years in prison. His female partner in the crime was sentenced to from one to ten years.

Grahamona Makes River Run for Independence Event

The Grahamona, a new Willamette River steamer, made its first river trip from Independence with about 250 passengers. Owned by Oregon City Transfer Co and led by A B Graham, the vessel is 172 feet long, 30 feet wide, with two 150 hp engines, drawing 18 inches loaded, and capable of carrying 460 passengers.

Last Friday the Juniors hosted Misa Evelyn Mc Laughlin at Misa Vale Hillibrand's home after a song program and refreshments. Independence High School football faced Willamette University, outplayed but held to one score. Newtor, Marvin, Richardson and Moran starred for Independence. Upcoming game with Corvallis High School, officer elections for all classes, and a student body constitutional session concluded with the constitution adopted and officers elected.

Markey Hibbard Charged With Forgery and Theft

Markey Hibbard forged the name of Chaz Fitchard and secured 100 from the Independence National Bank after presenting a counterfeit check. Bank cashier DeArmond alerted authorities, and Hibbard was arrested in Salem by Deputy Sheriff Esch while en route to Portland. He faces related charges in Sam on for obtaining money under false pretenses.

Dr Malcomson a graduate of the American School of Osteopathy Kirksville Missouri with the Drs Howells Osteopathic physicians in Corvallis will donate two days weekly to Independence residents. She will examine and consult free during November to introduce Osteopathy and its benefits. She will be at Mrs J B Hildbrand’s residence on C street opposite the public school Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday forenoon treating women and children only Clyde Hill of Portland visited the city on Wednesday.

C P Gates, running for representative, will close his campaign in Independence by using the phrase Hell to describe the area. The remark follows a speech by Gill, a county prohibition committee field worker, who called Independence hell.
