At Ernst Zielesch's farm gophers were fed poison in a field test coordinated by F.P.H. and the U S Biological Survey. About twenty one farmers attended the demonstration with eight days prior warning and a ten pound to one ounce mix of green clover tops and alkaloid nat. Estimated crop damage reached fifty dollars with Monday and Hallaton meetings noted and W L Derryn assisting agricultural leader.

Former Monmouth Girl Dies in San Diego
Gladys Parker Bingman, a former Monmouth resident, died in San Diego at 1 a m Monday. She had lived in Honolulu and Los Angeles since marriage and was active in young people’s work. She had tuberculous illness for years and recently had an appendicitis operation. Her father C C Parker left for San Diego after learning of her serious condition.

Young daughter of Riley Rhoads dies at home
Dorothea Mary May, two years eight months and twenty four days old, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Riley Rhoads, died at their southwest town home on May 24 from membranous croup. Burial is at Odd Fellows cemetery this afternoon at 2 guided by Dr H Charles Dunsmore and Funeral Director A L Keeney. The death came as a severe shock to the family.

Kit Carson Name Appears On Turtle At Ranch Display
A turtle found near Clarence E Burroughs ranch shows the inscription Kit Carson, 1841, on its shell. James Gilliam discovered the shell and it is now on display at Sloper Bros. & Cockle. The date on the shell is uncertain, possibly from 1841 or later additions by an admirer seeking to fool the public.

Dunckel Builds Modern Kitchenette in City Auto Park
A. E. Danckel, owner of Independence steam laundry, has installed a kitchenette in the city auto park with range lighting and hot and cold water. The 14 by 20 foot building will briefly expand to 14 by 40 feet, plus outdoor concrete fire places for campers, about ten installed. Completion is planned by early June to attract tourists.

Greenhouse Project Planned on Ingram Property
A large greenhouse will be built at the corner of Seventh and FE streets in Independence. Mrs. Catherine Ingram has sold the residence to T. H. Wellsher of Corvallis, to be occupied by his son in law A. E. Butts, who will begin construction immediately. The deal was handled by Independence Realty. Possession is given at once, with Mrs. Ingram planning to remain in Independence.

Collision at Sixth and Monmouth Streets Damages Two Cars
Dr. Knott and James Hinkle of Monmouth collide at Sixth and Monmouth streets at noon Wednesday. Knott had the right of way but Hinkle, watching another car, failed to see the doctor’s vehicle. Both drivers escape injuries while both cars suffer heavy damage, with Hinkle’s car turned completely turtle.
