The plan would subdivide into five and ten acre tracts for eastern farmers, seek fifty thousand dollars in stock, and operate four years, with growth tied to harvest timing and local investor interest.

Surprise Birthday Banquet for Sherman Hays at Hotel Independence
Sherman Hays manager of the Rowe hop yard near Independence received a surprise 42nd birthday banquet at Hotel Independence. Jeane Whiteaker E Owen Clyde Williams and Moss Walker hosted with an eight course menu including oysters and spring chicken. Hays was toasted by all guests and named toast master as the group celebrated the unexpected event.

In Rickreall Oregon a July 16 farewell at the Metaler residence hosted Mia Lenora and Clara Klewine of Missouri who visited since June 1. Cards and refreshments followed with plans for Vancouver and Beattie prior to a safe return home. R W Wyantt was arrested for discharging firearms in the city limits after drinking in Salem. He paid a light fine Monday.

City Council Holds Bid Debate on City Hall Roof
The council discussed bids to roof the city hall with two proposals. R. M. Wade & Co offered tin roofing with under side coating and a ten year guarantee if standing seam is used. Steiner & Berger of Salem proposed standing seam with longer guarantees and maintenance. The Wade bid was favored if standing seam and ten year guarantee are included. The council also received deeds for eight feet from the west end of Mrs. Quarragus on Main Street.
