The Oregon Legislature elected George B. Chamberlain as United States Senator on Tuesday. Chamberlain received 63 votes, with 34 in the House and 19 in the Senate. two unpledged members voted for him. Pioneer Dallas citizen Uncle Monroe Miller dies at home
Dallas veteran Miller born November 9 1827 in Cole county Missouri died Sunday night from stomach troubles and injuries from a fall during the recent cold spell. A pioneer of 1847 he held a 640 acre government donation claim. Survived by one daughter Nellie E. Grant. first wife Margaret Crowley died seven months after marriage. second wife Lucinda Logan died 1887. He was a Baptist church member.

Ira F M Butler a Polk county pioneer and former state legislator died Saturday at age ninety seven He was born in Glasgow Kentucky in 1812 crossed the plains in 186k and settled in Oregon He served as county judge for four years and in the Oregon legislature for three terms including as speaker in 1858 Survivors include daughters Muggle and Alice Butler of Monmouth and A B Butler of California The funeral was at 2 PM from the Christian church in Monmouth with interment in Odd Fellows cemetery
