The Athletic Club played strong defense and efficient basket work while Independente struggled with wood playing and were outmatched by the seasoned opponents. The High School team faced experienced players and accepted defeat as expected on their home floor.
Long and Campbell convert the Independence to Salem auto stage into a permanent service with rail connections to the Salem and Dallas line. The trip from Independence to Salem takes about 40 minutes and the combined auto stage and train fare is about 70 cents.
Mr and Mrs C B McDevitt parents of Mrs Geo Conkey and the Minsey McDevitt of this city have returned to Polk county after two years in San Francisco. After visiting with their children in dependence they will go back to their Dallas home to reside.

Falls City passed an anti treating ordinance and capped saloons at two despite fourteen applicants. The change shocks liquor interests who expected licenses, as treating enforcement reduces booze receipts by about seven percent. Residents split between dismayed “good fellows” and frugal citizens who can drink without inviting others to the free lunch counter.

Mr. McClarin the architect presented the new Independence High School with a fine 9 by 16 fing. Teachers and pupils vote thanks unanimously. Debating work is organized and Independence will be represented in the Polk County High School League by two teams. The single tax question is featured and a current events class discusses leading papers and magazines to interest pupils.
