Corvallis High Defeats Local Team In One Sided Game

The local high school basketball squad lost to Corvallis 44 to 17 Friday evening. Corvallis star Smith dominated, while local players showed some bright moments in the second half but failed to keep pace throughout.

Five Prominent Men Back Oregon Good Roads Meeting

The Oregon Good Roads Association held a large Portland meeting on December 12 with Dr Andrew Smith presiding. Over 200 road supervisors and several county judges attended, including John F Hall J Henry and H W Thompson. Delegates included Frank M Fretwell and Erpent McGaffey. A Highway Commissioner board was formed to levy automobile taxes, debated without friction, and highway routing decisions were left to county courts.

The installation of a modern domestic finishing machine at a cost over 300 dollars moves the local steam laundry toward total modernization. Manager Johnson plans further upgrades as demand grows, aiming to keep the plant up to date and increase capacity soon.

Prizes Awarded At Focal Whist Club Meeting

An enthusiastic gathering at P. M. Kirkland's home awarded prizes for the past year. Mrs. Joe Hubbard won the first ladies prize. Mrs. J. S. Cooper the second ladies prize. Mr. Joe Hubbard the frat gentlemen's prize. Mr. P. M. Kirkland the second gentlemen's prize. Mrs. Cooper's prize was sent to Los Angeles, with best wishes. Mesdames Butler and Kutch won ladies honors. Dr. Butler and Mr. Kutch won gentlemen honors. The club remains thriving with active participation and growing membership.

CARTER PAYS US A VISIT TO INDEPENDENCE

Cartoonist Perry Carter called at the Enterprise office yesterday morning and spoke with staff. He described himself as gloomy offstage yet humorous, praised Independence and Willamette Valley, and said he might consider making the area his home. He and Mrs. Carter headed to Sheridan for a lyceum appearance last night.

Correction on salaries note increased teachers count

The Enterprise corrects a prior error stating that the number of public school teachers has increased this year rather than salaries rising. Also notice Christmas Eve services at Calvary Presbyterian Church with a Sunday school program and a tree distribution inviting all to attend and bring gifts for needy children.

Talk of establishing a new power boat ferry to run before the spring rush circulates as a near certainty. It would relieve the current overtaxed crossing during hop season, saving teamsters time.
