Commercial Club Reopens with Boost for Home Industry

After months of rest the Commercial Club met in its rooms last Tuesday. Members discussed a proposed special edition of the Salem Journal, but Independence rejected it in favor of supporting local industry. A mill project by Spaulding Lumber Co. was discussed with likely startup within a year if railroad access is secured. A three-person committee was formed to oversee the town's industrial interests and a next meeting will elect new members and plan increased club ambition.
