Pather of Mrs Hennagin Killed at Eugene
Mr and Mrs Frank Hennagin and daughter attended the funeral of Mrs Hennagins father Theme Bayly in Eugene. Bayly a widower with large family was killed crossing 18th street by a Southern Pacific train last Wednesday evening while gardening. He had lived in Eugene 15 years and leaves four sons and four daughters. Carrie Bayly joined the Hennagins to return to Ontario for teaching duties next year.

Former resident Helen Talbott dies in Portland
Mrs. Helen M. Talbott age 64 a former resident of Independence and Dallas died in a Portland sanitarium last Saturday. Born in Iowa she came to Oregon in 1902 living in Independence before moving to Dallas. Survived by three sons J C Talbott Portland A B Talbott Turner and F B Talbott Waldport. Funeral services were held Tuesday in Dallas with the Heiah Lodge in charge.

Soldier Bonus payments begin to arrive in Oregon
The state bonus commission reports the first loan repayment received on a $3,000 loan by Frederick Jonsen of Portland, with quarterly payment terms. Edgar Frans of Hood River also sent the same amount by cashier’s check. About 18,068 cash bonus claims totaling $4,147,038 have been approved, 2,347 loans totaling $5,327,700 fixed, and 842 loans amounting to $2,000,500 approved for payment. Funds from the initial $10,000,000 bond issue are expected to run out about October 1, with a new $5,000,000 sale authorized for September delivery in October.

Girl Triplets Born in Falls City Family
Mrs Rex Oberson of Falls City surprised her husband by delivering three daughters weighing about 21 1/2 pounds each. All were healthy at birth but died the following day. Oberson’s wife is Fay Mott of Dallas and the couple had no other children.

Road work begins north of Independence for new asphalt pave
The county awards Dennis Construction a $145 per yard contract for a three inch asphalt surface, 16 feet wide, on roughly a mile and quarter north of Independence. Weather permitting, about 80 days to finish. Local property owners may extend pavement to Oak Point schoolhouse or Greenwood road with additional donations. County grader to remove gravel, three culverts to be installed, base leveling and top dressing by the contractor. Dennis Construction has nearly finished the Dallas Salem road, enabling favorable pricing due to their proximity.

Dallas defeated the local team 14 to 6 on a sunlit Sunday at home. Pete Stoltenberg pitched the first two innings with Verd Schrunk backing him, while Hooper and Bozell formed the Salem battery. Local fielders included Dr. L. E. Barrick at short and Charles Calbreath at first. Dallas showed superior teamwork, and Manager Don Barton plans several September games if weather allows, aiming to schedule a Grande Ronde contest possibly the following Sunday.
