Cramer family relocates ranch ownership to Parker

Mrs Jennie Constance wife of H C Constance a well known local farmer died at home last Saturday from pneumonia Funeral services were at the Presbyterian church with Dr H Charles Dunmore officiating Interment was in the Odd Fellows cemetery She was born August 20 1849 in eastern Wisconsin and married Henry Constance of New Richmond after 1877 They moved to Independence with daughter Lizzie in 1905 and Lizzie later married Andy Wilson Their grandson Charlie Wilson was cared for by the grandparents after the death of his mother Mrs Constance had long managed the farm and household while Mr Constance aged and ill spent years in the state hospital The obituary notes the couple’s strong farming legacy and Mrs Constance’s pivotal role in family and farm life.

H. C. Constance died in the state hospital at 10 30 yesterday morning and his remains were taken to the A L Keeney chapel. A funeral is expected at the Presbyterian church with interment in Odd Fellows cemetery. Mrs Constance was buried there Tuesday. Mr Constance was 70 years old.

Hecker Former Polk County Resident Held in Portland Murder Case
Russell Hecker once lived in Suver and Albany before being held in Portland on a first degree murder charge for Frank Bowker’s death. Hecker allegedly confessed to killing Bowker and disposing of the body by throwing it from a bridge into the Calapooia River near Albany. The search for the body continues.

Special Train Valsetz Sunday to Benefit Athletic Fund
Independence residents may visit the model saw mill town of Valsetz and tour the Dobbs Mitchell plant on Sunday April 22. A steam train will depart Independence at 9 am and return from Valsetz at 5 pm, round trip fare 2.15 dollars. Proceeds support an employee athletic fund with no compensation expected by organizers.
