Heavy rains in the Tanana valley trigger flood fears in Fairbanks. Chena slough rises well above normal as driftwood jams form and a bridge opposite the town is swept away this morning at six o'clock. The situation underscores rising flood danger in the area.
Las Vegas June 18 Champion Jack Johnson, in town for his bout with Flynn, says he will retire from the ring on Labor Day. He is willing to meet all white hopes, but fights must be scheduled before September 2.
Washington reports the resignation of Solicitor General Frederick William Lehmann a Democrat appointed by Taft two years ago. Born in Germany and former president of the American Bar Association, Lehmann’s successor will be William Marshall Bullitt of Louisville Kentucky a Republican convention delegate at large in 1908 and a committee on resolutions member.
June 23. Local Republicans, led by Roosevelt supporters, are distressed by the Chicago convention result. They expected an easy victory for Roosevelt, but the outcome surprised them.
A wireless message reports Judge Overfield Clerk Page and other court officials aboard the White Seal. The vessel is expected to reach Dikeman Friday and will depart for Fairbanks and other points on July 3. T. J. Nestor of Ross and Nestor and several ladies accompany the party. Wm. Sunderbruch is the vessel’s agent.
John Sesnon a prominent Nome businessman and reputed millionaire died yesterday in Seattle. He entered Nome’s lighterage trade in its early days with partners Dan Sutherland and Fred Carter.
Ad Wolgast is the favorite in the Rivers bout with odds set at 7 to 1 against him. The match carries high expectations as Wolgast seeks boxing supremacy.
Mr. Van Bergen, a prominent engineer, arrived on the Pup and is expected to oversee the erection of hedges and other machinery for the Yukon Gold Company. Two 45-horsepower motors and special cars for the Iditarod Traction Co. arrived on the launch Yentna yesterday.

The outlet offers a full line of high grade gentlemen's wear, furnishings, and fine wearables with closing out prices. Local residents are urged to inspect the stock and place delivery orders by phone.
Friedmans Store on Frout Street advertises top cash prices for raw furs, inviting customers to bring pelts to sell. The notice emphasizes immediate payment and high valuation for all fur types.

The piece argues the party is not merely a group led by self-constituted figures like Roosevelt. James Kelly known as Leather Neck and Thomas Curtin miners were bound over to the grand jury in 4000 dollars each for stealing about 600 pounds of black sand from Riley and Marston's discovery claim Otter Creek. Deputy Marshal Howell traced the theft from a capsized boat to a Discovery cabin where 50 pounds of sand were found and more recovered in boats and pockets. They denied the charge, bail unpaid at press time.
Lightning struck Fairbanks on June 26 knocking a maid and several children in a house unconscious and damaging nearby homes. The city's electric light and telephones were knocked out. A later storm on June 29 burned Mrs. Young, struck the Cathcart home, shattered plates and a phone, and seriously damaged the N C Co power plant with estimated losses of 520,000.
Officials urge residents and visitors to refrain from street fireworks in Flat City during the Fourth of July celebrations. The baseball park offers ample space for displays and would reduce risks to life and limb.
Chris Daniels, a recent Camp recruit working for Riley on Otter Creek, suffered a severe hand injury when his right hand was caught by a bucket. A finger was broken and flesh torn from the bone. He received treatment at the Emergency hospital in Flat City after arriving from the outside about two hours earlier. Travelers praise the steamer Washburn, the latest addition to the N. N. Co. river fleet, calling it fast with fine appointments and service.
A report says Tom Howard the freighter is believed drowned after a trip down the Aniak. His boat was last seen with the outfit found ashore and a search started, but no trace of Howard was found.

American Federation of Labor president Samuel Gompers is jailed for a year for contempt of court in Washington. Secretary Frank Morris and United Mine Workers leader John Mitchell received six months. An appeal has been lodged and all were released on bail.
