Dr Edward E Hill died here last night of heart disease and bronchitis after a long public career. He came to Nome in 1890 and became a leading figure, serving as Democratic national committeeman, councilman, and city health officer. At death he was grand president of the Alaska District, F O.
Chicago reports from June 22 describe a day of contested credentials at the Republican convention with multiple roll calls. Gov Hadley supported minority reports but Taft gained strength. A deal underway may form a vast dredging syndicate to take over Pioneer Mining and Wild Goose Mining and other Seward peninsula prospects. An English syndicate is rumored to back the move with Pioneer receiving a $250,000 cash option. Total price will run into millions.

The first stampede from the Innoko area began after Fred Anderson brought news of the strike. Over 30 left Flat and Discovery in two days, with many heading in for prospecting or short visits for ground. Names include Charles Knell Walter Hunter J Brondino John Klonos Young Dan McCarty Billy Bevans Jed Vaughn and more, as launches Otter and Comet set off with provisions and crews.

Mail from the M. L. Washburn bound for Iditarod is due tomorrow. The vessel, built for Iditarod River service, may reach Iditarod City with several tons of mail aboard. Onboard cargo includes chocolates, candy, nuts, fruit, soft drinks, chewing gum, and a 1912 World's Almanac from Ansiey's.

Rumor says Washington postal officials propose cutting next winter's Iditarod mail service. They cite last winter's facilities as excessive for the camp's needs. A reduction would burden thousands in Innoko and Kuskokwim valleys. Last year expected 400 pounds weekly. delays occurred as mail held in Fairbanks Cordova or Seattle. Pioneer still receiving February mail.
H Richards of Iditarod and Ruby planned to leave last Wednesday with goods packed and to ride the Comet to Dike man.
