Death of Justice Fuller in Bar Harbor at 77

Bar Harbor Me July 11 Chief Justice Melville W Fuller of the United States Supreme Court died at his summer home in Bar Harbor this afternoon from heart failure He was born in Augusta Maine in 1833 and 77 next February He was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1888 by President Grover Cleveland In Washington many expect President Taft to promote ex Governor Hughes to the vacancy created by Fuller's death Justice Hughes recently became associate justice to replace the late Justice Brewer

Iditarod River Navigation Plan Promises Freight Boost

Citizens meet at Brumbaugh Hamilton Kellogg to fund river improvements. A hundred plus back the plan to build wing dams and dredge a runway, enabling easier navigation between Iditarod City and Dikeman. Several firms and individuals pledge funds and crew support to start work soon.

Up River Country Looks Promising for Prospects

Prospectors report the head of the Iditarod as promising with many staking ground and plan to winter there. Some prospected into the Kuskokwim watershed meeting numerous other prospectors while holes on headwater creeks showed gold bearing but wet ground limited tests. Many Die in Rail Accident Near Dayton Ohio

Fifty passengers were killed and about the same injured when the New York bound Twentieth Century Limited wrecked near Dayton. Spreading rails caused the disaster this morning. The report also notes King Peter’s illness in Belgrade and local developments in Iditarod and nearby towns.
