South Shore Club House Faces Community Hearing

Florence C Gool reports that the Chicago Plan Commission will hold a community hearing tomorrow on October 13 to consider the Park District request to tear down the South Shore Country Club main club house at 71st and Exchange. Civic groups oppose razing. District estimates rehabilitation costs around 4 million dollars based on a 40 year life.

Landlord Loses Kimbark Building Over Code Violations

Circuit Court Judge Archibald Carey appointed a receiver to determine steps to bring 5325-29 S Kimbark up to city code after finding the building unsafe. Owner Robert I Westphalen was fined 100 for each of 69 violations. the suit by City of Chicago and Hyde Park residents Eugene and Barbara Krell followed a 1975 murder linked to the site.
