Conversion of Rosenwald mansion approved by Chicago Plan Commission
Five to two vote allows Louis Silverman to convert the Rosenwald mansion at 4901 S Ellis into three condo units with one unit in the coachhouse and eight new detached houses on the site. The decision follows two emotional hearings and disputes over R-1 zoning versus multi family use, with strong input from Kenwood Open House Committee and supporters including a Landmarks Preservation Council representative.
