Veterans Return to Spain After Forty Years of War
Eight American veterans of the Spanish Civil War, including Milton Cohen Julius Deutsch and John Rossen among them, journeyed back to Spain to celebrate the first democratic elections in Madrid. Cohen who organized Lincoln Brigade veterans said the trip marks the climax of a lifelong mission begun in 1936. The group noted the failure of the U S to officially engage during the conflict while Nazi Italy and Germany aided Franco and Republican aid came from Russia Mexico and anti fascist volunteers.

Change in South Shore Country Club committee announced
State Rep Robert Mann announced a committee reshuffle to plan future use of the South Shore Country Club buildings and grounds. Senior phone reassurance plan in Hyde Park Kenwood
A one year grant from the Mayor's Office for Senior Citizens funds a telephone reassurance program by the Hyde Park Kenwood Community Conference. Groups of six seniors will call one another daily to check on well being and arrange help if needed. Participants are 60 plus, live alone in Hyde Park Kenwood area, and have no daily contact.
