Tenants Seek Arbitration in Dorchester Eviction Fight
About 50 residents of the 5327 35 Dorchester building, organized as a tenant union, face eviction proceedings by Baird and Warner. The union, which executed a 1970 collective bargaining agreement, claims disputes may be settled by binding arbitration. The owner disputes the agreement and recognitions. A court ruling on the arbitration motion was expected around April 30.

ESAA fund proposals submitted by Chicago schools

No Leads in Fields Murder Shock Chicago Home
No leads at press time in the double homicide of Mr and Mrs John Fields found in their coach house behind their Greenwood Street home. Feat Die Reed owned the home and discovered the scene. Police classified the killings as an execution style murder with both victims shot in the head, Mrs Fields found in a bedroom and Mr Fields gagged and blindfolded elsewhere. Mrs Fields, a second year IIT student, had ties to Chicago social circles and earlier education at the University of Chicago Lab School and Simmons College. Cmdr James O Grady noted district crime fell 13.1 percent compared to early 1972, attributing the drop to active crime reporting and arrests.

Despres aide shot in South Shore
An aide and receptionist in the office of Fifth Ward Alderman Leon Despres, Annette Strickland, was shot in the back near her South Shore home on Monday April 9. She underwent three hours of surgery at South Shore Hospital and remains in intensive care, in good spirits and improving daily. Strickland has worked in the Fifth Ward Citizens Committee Office since 1964.
