A Meridian Mississippi tornado struck March 3 at 4 27 pm tearing through the business district for four minutes. Twenty six people were killed and forty six injured as the storm damaged or destroyed the electric plant and several major structures including the Meridian cotton mill Queen and Crescent depot Lyle Grocery C M Rubush lumber yards Meyer Neville Hardware Grand Avenue hotel Ogden hotel Y M C A and Elmire restaurant. The death toll is believed not higher due to workers having left for home before the storm.
