Expedition West of the Rocky Mountains reaches back home
A fragment from the Marietta Republican recounts the 1820 21 expedition of 42 men led by Col Henry Leavenworth to explore west from the Mexican frontier. After eleven years abroad William Clawson reports their journey from Albany through Green Bay Prairie du Chien St Anthony's falls and the Missouri River to the Rockies enduring winters and a long eastward voyage back toward home.
