The Village Prize and a Stranger in the Lee of Annette

In a Virginia village of 1773 a famed leap contest decides Annette's hand. Harry Carroll wins twenty one feet and a half, but a mysterious stranger tops him with twenty two feet one inch. The stranger awards the prize to Carroll, declaring love as the stake, and the couple wed. Later, Carroll becomes Col. Henry Carroll of the Revolution, and a future reunion with General Washington hints at a grand, rustic legend.
