Specimen skinless oat shown at Warwickshire meeting
At a Warwickshire Agricultural Society meeting Rev Mr Knott presented a skinless oat from seed supplied by Mr Tucker of Fleanton Punchardon. Grown in 1530 in Britain by Thomas Derenzy from seed via Rotterdam and Shantex, it yields 26 bushels of fourteen stone per acre. The grain is meallike, edible with no husk, and highly nutritious, though kiln drying and processing add cost. It was first grown in 1830 and reaped early August.
