Logan YMCA to reveal plans for new community pool

The Logan YMCA at 3600 Fullerton will unveil plans to build a swimming pool and related physical education facilities for youth and adults. Ronald D. Thompson, executive director, invites community organizations and individuals to hear the plan at an upcoming meeting. The drive aims for 500000 with a kickoff on October 1.

Humboldt Area Needs Push For Community Facilities

More than 60 Northwest Side residents attended an Our Lady of the Angels forum in Humboldt Park to discuss needs for recreation and an end to local apathy. The meetings, sponsored by Ministers for a Better Humboldt, raised talk of a West Humboldt Park swimming pool and possible reformation of a community group like TACO. David Sheldon of the Duncan-North YMCA helped organize as MBH seeks future sessions with area pastors and church sponsors.

Cody Elevation to Cardinal Honors Chicago Church

Most Rev. John Patrick Cody of Chicago is elevated to cardinal. Auxiliary Bishop Raymond P. Hillinger calls it an honor for Chicago and its Catholic and non Catholic communities. Hillinger notes Cody’s years of work and two years of service to the archdiocese and jokes about not traveling to Rome for the ceremony.

North-Crawford Chamber Alters Meeting Date Schedule

The North-Crawford Chamber of Commerce shifts meetings to the second Thursday each month. President Roy Domberg says the first gathering under the new plan is tomorrow June 8 at 1 p.m. at American Savings and Loan, 3924 North.

Bethel Lutheran to hold graduation in Hirsch Springfield church

Edwin Eckert, executive secretary of the Northern Illinois district board of Christian education, will speak at 10 30 a m Sunday graduation at Bethel Lutheran school in the Hirsch and Springfield church.
