Hubbard School's Advisory Council plans its first meeting in November to broaden communication between the school board, administration, and the public. President Carl Morell and Superintendent James D'Eramo emphasize that participation is open to all taxpayers and parents to guide school directions.
August fire activity dropped in Hubbard city and township. Hubbard city had three calls including two alarm drops and one flushing. The township logged six calls with two car fires causing about 1500 dollars in damage plus two grass fires one flush-out and one alarm drop. Previous months showed 21 alarms in May, 12 in June, and 14 in July. The highest monthly damage reached about 6000 dollars in an earlier period.
The Hubbard High School Alumni Band, 97 members with 20 majorettes and Mary of 1979, performed at a September 18 game against Bellflower. Founder legends Roxann Thorton Shelenberger and Barb Mock Valley led outreach while Dominic Feorene directed, though rehearsal was brief.

Hubbard council remains at odds over proposed salary increases for Auditor Phyllis Hamilton and Treasurer Dr. Thomas Crowe. Mayor Magee questioned why figures were withheld since March while Councilman Angelo promised the increases would be public before year’s end. The issue was left unsettled as officials pledged disclosure later.
Hubbard residents are urged to join the 1981 CROP Walk for Hunger at Poland United Methodist Church on Boardman Poland Road. Registration begins at 1 30 p m with walkers needed from Hubbard. Last year more than 100 residents participated and Hubbard raised 4824 00, the highest total citywide.

Hubbard PTA declares October as Membership Month with a $2.00 fee allowing membership across four units. Meetings are set for October 1, December 3, March 5 and May 6. Joann Lewis chairs membership. Phyllis Scardina leads the council. local chairmen are Sally Schneider and Mary Ann Robinson with Nancy Perline as cochairman.
