Hubbard St Patrick School welcomed Ed Tatarka as custodian in December 1980 and soon he became more than staff. He acts as surrogate grandfather to young students, helps with small repairs, and provides a listening ear to teachers, staff, and pupils alike. His peers describe him simply as a friend.

The Community Fund Corporation in Hubbard supports 15 agencies including visiting nurses services emergency relief Christmas vouchers and youth groups.
