Supt Metz to recognize Hubbard's Top Ten Seniors

Hubbard announces a Top Ten Seniors banquet on Monday May 15 at 6 30 p m at Longo's Banquet Room to honor Hubbard High School's ten highest achievers and to allow each senior to select a teacher who aided their success. The list of honorees includes John Battisti Jennifer Bishop Paula Burke Mike Good Dan Hays Elisha Hendrix Kendra Horvath Wayne Marks Bob Orr and Mark Thompson.

Hubbard High Juniors Named for Buckeye Boys State

Three Hubbard High juniors Mike Robek Chris Harrison and Bob Tootmeena Hubbard pen School will attend Buckeye Boys State at Bowling Green State University June 18 to 24 in its 54th year The program uses a hands on format to teach local county and state government and the two party system with citizens campaigning for offices such as governor or mayor and serving for the week.

Police chief debunks city occult rumor spread

Hubbard Police Chief Raymond Moffit dispelled rumors of occult practices in the city, noting no evidence of such activities or investigations. He advised public awareness and announced a forthcoming open seminar on occult practices to educate residents and coordination with schools.

Asbestos plan OK'd by Bd. of Education

Hubbard approves an asbestos management plan costing 8.6 million to remove and contain asbestos in district buildings. The plan, prepared by L. Robert Kimball and Associates, advances to the State Board of Education for review. Details include 5.25 million at Roosevelt Elementary and 2.92 million at the high school, with other projects and upcoming board discussion set for May 3.

Reed Middle School to host orientation for Roosevelt students

Reed Middle School will hold a three day orientation for fourth grade students from Roosevelt School May 3 to May 5. A special slide orientation is planned for May 3 and a Reed tour for May 5, followed by a band concert in the gym. Reed students will lead Roosevelt students in small group activities and a separate orientation for parents is scheduled.

Joe Vitullo enshrined in East High Hall of Fame

Hubbard golf pioneer Joe Vitullo was enshrined at East High School Sports Hall of Fame dinner at the ITAM Club in Youngstown. A 38 year Hubbard Golf Course pro, Vitullo 73, received multiple honors including golfer of the year 1963 and Curbstone Coaches Hall of Fame 1972 plus Hubbard All-Sports Hall of Fame 1978. He introduced golf innovations and organized several area events, led the local PGA, and mentored many players while championing women’s golf and veterans programs.

Incentive for blood donors at Hubbard High School

A Red Cross blood drive at Hubbard High School on Friday May 5 offers a free Pioneer Waterland Park admission ticket valued at 9.95 to each donor who registers from 8 30 a m to 2 30 p m. The ticket is valid through July 1 and located in Chardon. Coupons for 2 95 off additional tickets will be available, with 50 cents donated to the Red Cross for each coupon redeemed. Donors who have not given blood in the last 56 days are eligible.
