Trustees Seek Prosecutor Help Over Township Nuisances
Hubbard township trustees sent a letter to the Trumbull County Prosecutor seeking legal advice on whether they can act against nuisance issues without Board of Health action. They cited open wells, drainage issues, junk, abandoned structures, and garbage dumping as problems the health board has not adequately addressed. Trustees hope to obtain fines or injunctions and discussed Home Rule proposals to empower townships.

Hubbard Township to host public open house and bicentennial art contest
Hubbard Township plans a public open house on Sunday April 25 from 2 to 4 PM at the newly remodeled building. Trustee John Chappa announced details at last week’s board meeting. The event includes a bicentennial coloring and drawing contest for grades 1 through 4, with prizes, flags to be donated by Representative Mike Delbane, and tours of the building. Betsy Ross made a guest appearance, and Miss Mary Beth Ritenour organized the party with the Roosevelt Elementary first graders. State, county and township officials plus four area newspapers were invited to attend.

Homemakers and gourmets have until March 31 to submit favorite recipes to the Niles Publishing Co for the 13th annual Cookbook. Hundreds are already in, with rules and categories in the newspaper. Mail or deliver to the Suburban Weekly office. Grand prize is a color television and engraved silver spoon. winners in each category receive blue ribbons and a winner's choice prize. 35 honorable mentions awarded. Mailing cost for copies rises to $1.10 due to higher postal rates.

Solar heated home to break ground in Meadowlands
Ground breaking ceremonies were held for Stanjim Meadowlands first solar energy home in Hubbard. Engineers say the two story home will save about 350 dollars annually on energy costs and be finished this summer with display in September or October. The project team includes Duane Rost and Charles Alexander, with Gene Ameduri, and aims for total cost near 50 thousand dollars including a 5 thousand dollar solar unit.

Baseball Clinic Set For Children At YMCA
Hubbard area youth ages 9 to 14 may join a YMCA Baseball Clinic covering pitching catching and hitting plus game rules. City honors donors for Senior Citizen van and remodeled chambers
The Hubbard City Council praised 11 groups and individuals for funding a Senior Citizen transportation van and chairs for the council chambers. Recipients include Hubbard Homecoming Association, Buck Insurance, Ditmansen Insurance, Al Tells Pharmacy, Mahoning National Bank, Guy’s Drug Store, Metropolitan Savings, and local doctors. The city remodeled the chambers with a $2,200 chair donation and brown leather seating, trades old furniture, and warns meetings may be limited if the space is abused.
