Warren Trumbull County Commissioners vow to oppose another 19 percent increase by Masury Water Company on top of the existing 15 percent approval. If approved, the average bill could rise by seven dollars monthly, with Masury planning to implement mid 1986.
Warren Trumbull County commissioners disconnected the 1 800 T COUNTY toll free line to cut expenses. The budget is three million dollars short and employee layoffs have begun amid a proposed half cent piggyback sales tax. Former candidate Harlan Williams pressed for figures, prompting a sharp reply from Auditor Edward Bush. Commissioners may enact the tax or place it on the November ballot, with state law delaying action if voters defeat it.
Neighborhood winners in the Girl Scout Bake-Off advance to District competition on March 9. Winners include Crystal Hickerson Girard first in cookies, Dawn Rose Hubbard first in meatloaf, Tracy Gavini Girard first in pie, Erin Chuey Girard first in casserole, with Jennifer DePascale Hubbard second in cookies, Jennifer Bishop Hubbard second in pie, Paula Burke Hubbard second in casserole. Council Bake-Off on April 27 features Ashtabula, Trumbull, Columbiana and Mahoning Counties. Coordinator Lynn Miller. judges Mary Drissen Ann Rudinsky and Mrs Miller. Hardee’s donated free food coupons as prizes.
Roosevelt Elementary, serving kindergarten through fourth grade, complies with state standards by offering prevention information. Principal Gail Patrick helped launch a program for students and screened the American Council for Drug Education film Wasted, which follows Tim’s descent into drug and alcohol abuse beginning at age eight and his efforts to reclaim his life.
Trumbull County faces mine opening headaches amid nine areas damaged by collapses as neighboring states set up subsidence funds. Illinois and Pennsylvania already have schemes. Ohio delays launching for six months or more to raise funds and align with Federal aid rules. The plan could later offer up to 50000 coverage per dwelling and awaits steps from federal guidelines and state insurers.
Hubbard Public Library hosts VITA volunteers every Wednesday by appointment to provide free tax help for elderly, disabled, low income and non English speaking taxpayers. Trained by the IRS, the program runs Feb 13 and continues each Wednesday from 9 11 30 am and 12 noon 4 pm with no wait for those with appointments.
