Fire destroys house at S Main and Church Streets
A house at the corner of S Main and Church Streets burned early Friday, rekindling after firefighters arrived just after 1 AM. The blaze cut power and phone lines to a large area for hours, destroyed the home and contents, and forced gas to be shut off. Neighbors heard an explosion. the building also housed All-Weather Seal Co. Officials investigate the fire’s cause.

Community urged to donate blood at Hubbard drive

Budget cut no help School seeks way out of financial crisis
Hubbard district faces a 1985 deficit of 1.2 million dollars. Superintendent Clyde Metz told the Board of Education that without a state loan the district cannot meet expenses for the year. An audit by the state auditor was approved to certify funds eligibility as the district seeks state loan approval. The board considers an operating levy, as tax receipts fall short by about 131 thousand dollars, with total 1985 revenue projected at 7.4 million dollars. A previously approved bond issue remains limited to building improvements.
