Editors note recounts Mike Varveris visit to Wright Brothers National Memorial at Kill Devil Hills North Carolina scene of the first successful 1903 flight. Hubbard board approves two studies by Geary Moore and Ahrens on district demographics and science department remodeling with costs about 2500 and 4000 dollars respectively. 3-1 vote with William Kinnick alone opposing citing public works funding concerns. Also authorizes band night at stadium and purchase of laundry equipment for Hubbard Community Pool with partial repayments by Athletic Association over three years.

Flowers Along Route 7 In Brookfield Township

Teresa Salow grows and sells homegrown bouquets along Route 7 in Brookfield Township. For about a decade she tends some 10 000 square feet of flowers from seeds, driven by hobby and pleasure rather than profit. The Salows care for marigolds floss chrysanthemums daisies and snapdragons in a seasons cycle from seed to bloom with spring planting and summer pruning, sharing beauty with travelers.

Hubbard Gridiron Club to induct 16 into Hall of Fame

Hubbard Gridiron Club announces the First Annual Hubbard Hall of Fame Banquet on Tuesday August 28 at the House of Valley with Notre Dame coach Richard Phelps as the main speaker after a 6 pm dinner. Sixteen former players coaches and athletes from Hubbard will be inducted based on nominations from local sports fans. Tickets remain available at Marconi Club VFW Jack's Barber Shop and Vince's Barber Shop as the club aims to honor those who contributed to Hubbard High School athletics. The event will become an annual ceremony recognizing Hubbard athletics figures.

Early deadline set for The News September 6 issue

The News announces an early deadline due to Labor Day. All copy and pictures for the September 6 edition must be in The News office by noon Thursday August 31.

Township May Have Cable TV In Hubbard

Hubbard township trustees will urge Armstrong Utilities to supply cable TV while noting no jurisdiction over contracts or revenue. A board member stated the system can extend throughout the township if compliant with state law and safety codes. The board will also seek petitions for Laurel Park street lighting to estimate project costs and approved a $1700 snowplow purchase from Gledhill Galion after a $200 discount.

July 4th celebration moved to September weekend

Hubbard announces the Fourth of July activities, cut short by rain, will be held September 2 and 3 in the city building parking lot. September 2 begins at 2 p.m. with games and youth activities. The program includes round square and polka dancing, with further details on JULY 4, Page 3.
