Challenger League lets disabled boy play baseball in Ohio
Nine year old Vinny Bruner, paralyzed by spina bifida, joins the Challenger Division of Ohio District 2 Little League. In the four inning games with seven batters per side, Vinny bats from a T while buddy Jenny pushes him around the bases. Vinny plays for the Cardinals. other teams include Karzmer & Associates and Van Sickle Foundation.

Hubbard student to spend junior year in Belgium as Rotary exchange
Melissa Beegle, 16, of Hubbard and Beloit families, heads to Belgium for her junior year as a Rotary exchange student. She will stay with three host families, start Aug 21, and study math and science while learning Dutch or French. She hopes to pursue pediatrics or cardiology after high school.

Hubbard talks reach impasse in teacher contract dispute
Hubbard Education Association and the Hubbard Board of Education declared an impasse on June 30 over a contract for about 130 teachers. HEA president Jesse Hall says there is no danger of a work stoppage and classes should start Aug 31. Arbitration set up with AAA. talks focus on money and contract language with no deadlines.
