Since 1965 Hubbard Rotary Club sponsors foreign student exchanges. A Rotarian visit in 1956 to New Washington, Pennsylvania inspired the program then known as American Field Service, begun after World War I ambulance drivers.
Two French exchange students Benoit Hernandez from Avignon and Guillaume Pinon from Toulon stay one month with American families in Hubbard. They note faster dining habits and wide cereal variety with mornings at Captain Crunch and Lucky Charms. Both praise American friendliness after brief neighbor chats and tour local sites including G M Lordstown Plant and Youngstown State University.
Registration for Roosevelt School pupils not yet registered or new to the area will be held in the small cafeteria on Wednesday August 16 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. Children must be five by Sept. 30, 1989 and show birth certificate immunization records proof of Hubbard District residency and custody documents if applicable.

Patrolman Jeff Whitaker, 36, was injured when his cruiser ran off Mt Everett Road and flipped while chasing a residential burglary alarm. He was in the ICU at Northside Medical Center for about two days with a separated shoulder and torn muscles. Whitaker has served Hubbard Township since 1978 with a brief 1982 departure and a return in 1988. He previously won Officer of the Year in 1979 for arrests. He pledged to continue serving the community.
