Hubbard Council Goes on August Vacation
Hubbard City Council will be on vacation for the month of August and no meetings will be held. Regular meetings occur on the first and third Mondays at 7 30 p.m. in the council chambers at 33 W Liberty St. The next meeting, normally September 1, is moved to September 15 due to Labor Day.

City May Extend Water Service to 800 Households Near Hubbard
City and HUD officials discussed a $208,000 federal grant toward a $500,000 water plant expansion to serve about 160 families in Moyer Miles Monheimer Rachellan and Ohio avenues plus nearby blocks south of the city. County approval or annexation would be needed since the area lies outside city limits. The federal term would cover water line additions with no new standpipe or major works, and Romanick warned cost for the new addition could not yet be estimated.

Hubbard Public Library announces the final week to register for the Vacation Book program. A Thursday party on August 14 at 2 p.m. will award certificates to participating youngsters. The last story hour drew 74 children, with the final session scheduled for Tuesday August 12 at 11 a.m.

Lars Arrives Here Three Hubbard Families to Host Exchange Student
Lars Erik Nordin arrived as Hubbard's Rotary exchange student for a year staying with three host families. Mr and Mrs Lawrence Minor, 603 Gary Dr, along with their four children Lucy 17, Charles 14, Beverly 12 and John 8, host the first family. Second hosts are Mr and Mrs Donald Hardin, 153 S Main St, with their children. Third hosts are Mr and Mrs George Stiver, 69 Belle Vista Ave. Lars, son of Nils Erich Nordin and Margareta Elisabeth Nordin, hails from Alassa Sweden and attends government civics chemistry math at the Skansta Gymnasium in Stockholm. He plans to study advanced technical industry at the Royal Institute of Technology and enjoys photography hockey sailing and water skiing.

Oil slicks spotted in Lake Erie near Port Clinton
The Ninth District Coast Guard watched three mile long oil slicks about 30 miles north of Port Clinton in Lake Erie. They likely leaked from an abandoned well operated by Quillan-Boy chuck & Associates Ltd of Chatham Ontario. A helicopter rescue mission found one mile long foam-filled slick, with two others caused by air bubbling. No immediate danger to shores. light variable winds likely wont move it.

City to Crack Down on Unlicensed Vehicles in Hubbard
Hubbard police will enforce a 1964 ordinance targeting unlicensed or non operative cars parked on public or private property. Vehicles abandoned on private land face 30 days notice, towing to a pound, and fines up to 100 dollars per day. city ordinances also prohibit overnight street parking and immediate towing for city property violations.
